Chicago comedy spotlight for Monday, July 3-Wednesday, July 5, 2017

The Riff at Gallery Cabaret, 2020 N. Oakley, 7:00 p.m. A unique open mic hosted by the kates. Comedians get a last-minute topic and deliver a surprise four-minute riff.

50 Shades of Green at Frances Cocktail Lounge, 307 E. 75th St., 8:00 p.m. A green attire event with Taneshia Rice in celebration of her birthday and appearance on Kevin Hart’s The Next Level.

 

Afterthoughts: 6 Month All-Star Comedy Roast Show at The Laugh Factory, 3175 N. Broadway, 8:00 p.m. While stand-up comedians perform, friends write roasts. This anniversary show brings back its funniest, meanest comic minds. With Tim McLaughlin, Shannon Noll, Jeff Arcuri and Russ Williamson. Hosted by Kristin Fenchak.

 

The Fortune Teller Show at iO, 1501 N. Kingsbury, 10:00 p.m. Tarot, tea leaves and improv create a personalized glimpse into an audience member’s future.

 

TUESDAY, JULY 4

Winner … of Our Discontent at Second City, 1616 N. Wells, 8:00 p.m. The 105th Mainstage revue. Tickets sell out fast. Check site for additional shows throughout the week.

The Standups on Netflix is released today. Two of the stars are Chicago comedians Deon Cole and Beth Stelling (along with Fortune Feimster, Nate Bargatze and Nikki Glaser.)

 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 5

Psychotic Break at Schubas Tavern, 3159 N. Southport Ave., 8:00 p.m. Chicago’s mental illness and addiction-themed comedy variety show hosted by Jenn Sodini and Dan Shapiro. Featuring Rosamund Lannin, Dan Kugler, and Mason Johnson.

The Lincoln Lodge presents Tommy’s Beach Bash at The Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, 9:00 p.m. Hosted by Tommy McNamara. Comedy, plus the 2017 Song of the Summer will be written live on stage.

Issac & Evans at Zanies, 1548 N. Wells, 8:30 p.m. Starring Michael Issac and Calvin Evans. These double headliners were on WCIU’s You and Me This Morning with Kelsie Huff and Jon Hansen on July 3 talking about comedy in Chicago and being the first Black stand-up duo. Check it out here. Comedians You Should Know at Timothy O’Toole’s, 622 N. Fairbanks Ct., 9:30 p.m. Mike Lebovitz hosts Sonia Denis, David Drake, Joe Kilgallon, Marilee, Nicky Martin and Aaron Sutherland.
