I was excited to share a Chicago comedian quoted in a major news outlet but when I looked up contact information, I saw this person is posting antisemitic memes on social media. Since ChicagoNow shut down, I have a smaller corner of the internet, but there’s no way I’m using that corner to spread or condone or connect to hate. I condemn hate and the choice to dehumanize and disconnect from tolerance and empathy. It’s the opposite of comedy, the opposite of what comedy’s supposed to do for us, and the opposite of what we all need right now. I started to get so depressed after I saw those memes, I almost scrapped this week’s calendar and wanted to sit in darkness and just let myself be enveloped by hopelessness. But one of the reasons I love comedy is its power to pull a person out of that shadow, back from the hellishness, maybe even prevent you from landing there at all. So like always, here are shows that I think will restore light and laughter to the world this week. Please confirm all details before leaving home and don’t let this world get you so down that you don’t want to leave home. Go connect with some laughter.
